Honduras

The Project

Mona Nieto dedicated a medical and dental clinic to Footsteps Missions to serve the children at their Economic Orphanage in rural Santa Barbara, Honduras. This clinic addresses basic healthcare needs, from hygiene checkups to life-saving treatments such as infected tooth extractions and annual wellness visits. Through La Luz de Isaiah’s support and Mona’s fundraising efforts, her community came together to raise $70,000. The clinic now stands as a beacon of care, offering ongoing services through the commitment of volunteer doctors and dentists year-round.

The Mission

This project is a testament to the power of healing through giving. Mona’s wish was to honor her son Isaiah’s legacy by providing lasting support to a vulnerable community. The La Luz de Isaiah clinic ensures children in this orphanage receive the care they need, helping them thrive and grow. By bringing together her community and the expertise of medical professionals, Mona’s dragonfly wish extends far beyond the clinic walls—instilling hope and creating lasting change in rural Santa Barbara. This small community, often overlooked, now has access to critical care, ensuring these children are supported in ways that honor Isaiah’s legacy.

Since Isaiah has been gone, my arms feel so empty
And I haven't felt this full, hugging all the kids.
I haven't been able to feel that for so long, and so I am so grateful.
And his light continues to shine.  I just want to thank you.

-Co-Founder Mona Nieto fulfilling her La Luz wish in Honduras by inaugurating a medical and dental clinic for an orphanage

When Isaiah passed, it felt like everyone wanted to help, but no one knew how—and even though I needed support, I couldn’t imagine how anyone could truly understand the depth of my grief. La Luz de Isaiah gave those around me a way to show their love and support, while still allowing me the space to grieve. Being able to physically go and open up the first La Luz facility in Honduras, surrounded by friends and family, brought healing to a part of me that I thought was beyond repair. This journey inspired my Co Founder Jessica and me to turn La Luz De Isaiah into a nonprofit to create this powerful space for grieving parents and those who want to support them.
